NDA vs MGB: With the early trends out, the numbers are similar to what all Exit Polls have predicted: a comfortable victory for the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Axis My India has predicted the NDA to win by a narrow margin with 121 to 141 seats, Mahagathbandhan (MGB) 98 to 118, and JSP 0 to 2 seats. The setbacks: The NDA massive lead has essentially dimmed the hopes of Tejashwi Yadav of becoming India’s youngest CM. The youngest person to take CM’s oath till date is Pema Khandu of Arunachal Pradesh, who assumed office at the age of 37. Tejashwi is 36. If the NDA go the exit polls way, Nitish Kumar could set a record by taking oath as Bihar’s CM for the 10th time. Prashant Kishor’s Jan Suraaj Party, which claimed to be an alternative option for voters, failed to get a look-in till 12 no0n on the leads/trailing list.

Bihar Assembly Elections 2025 Live Updates | 5 things to watch out for: Nitish factor, Chirag play to Prashant Kishor fate

With the counting of votes in the Bihar Assembly elections set to take place on Friday, here are five things to watch out for in this keen contest between the incumbent NDA and the Opposition Mahagathbandhan.

    Nitish’s leadership

Chief Minister and JD(U) president Nitish Kumar has long been the NDA’s face in Bihar. With the BJP and the JD(U) both allotted 101 seats as part of the NDA’s seat-sharing deal for the state’s 243 seats in the elections, the balance of power appeared to have shifted in the alliance, with the JD(U) no longer remaining the BJP’s senior ally. This indicated that even Nitish’s role may face scrutiny or challenge after the polls.

To retain his position as the NDA’s principal leader in Bihar, Nitish would be dependent on two things: the JD(U)’s own performance and whether the alliance could clinch a clear victory. If the NDA wins comfortably and Nitish retains a strong personal mandate with his party improving its tally as compared to the 2020 polls – when it had won just 43 seats against the BJP’s 74 – his leadership will be reinforced. But if the NDA’s victory is narrow and the BJP outperforms the JD(U), Nitish may see a question mark over his leadership. Read Full Report

Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025 Live Updates: Patna's flower and sweetmeat sellers keep stock ready, expect bumper sale on poll counting day

Flower and sweetmeat sellers of Patna are maintaining a large stock expecting brisk business on Friday, when votes for the assembly polls will be counted, as winning leaders will be garlanded and laddoos distributed among their followers.

Karan and Vikram, two teenage brothers selling marigold flowers under the GPO Golambar flyover, have received orders for around 400 bouquets for Friday. The order for garlands, they expect, will also come.

Vikram, the younger brother, said, "Nobody knows who will win the elections. Once the trends start coming tomorrow, the picture will be clearer. And, hopefully, orders will start coming.” The order for bouquets, they said, has come from an RJD worker.

Like flower sellers, sweet shops, too, have a lot to mine from.

Anticipating its victory in the 2025 Bihar assembly elections, the Bharatiya Janata Party has already ordered 501 kg of laddoo.

"Sweetmeats are indispensable on these occasions. They (politicians) will definitely come to us when the results are out," a shop owner in Patna's Patliputra Colony area said with a laughter. — PTI

Bihar Assembly Election Results 2025 Live Updates: How will counting of votes be carried out; what EC said

Counting will commence at 8 AM and according to the EC's directions, postal ballot counting will begin first. Counting of electronic voting machines (EVMs) will begin thereafter at 8.30 AM.

Counting of postal ballots is to be completed before the penultimate round of EVM counting, according to a recent EC direction.

Postal ballots are counted in the presence of candidates or their counting agents by the RO or assistant RO.

During EVM counting, control units are brought to the counting tables round-wise and shown to the counting agents to verify that the seals are intact and serial numbers match the records in part I of Form 17C.

The number of votes recorded in EVMs is cross-verified with entries in Form 17C. In case of any mismatch, VVPAT slips from that polling station are to be counted mandatorily.

After completion of EVM counting, a random selection of five polling stations per constituency is made for VVPAT verification. The slips are matched with EVM results in the presence of candidates and their counting agents.

Results will be compiled and made available round-wise and constituency-wise by the respective ROs on the official EC results portal.
