RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav on Monday said Bihar will vote for change in the upcoming assembly polls and "every Bihari will be the CM".
Soon after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule, Yadav took to X to strike an emotional chord with voters.
"Bihar will vote for a change in the coming assembly polls. After 20 years, a grand festival will arrive that will dispel all sorrows and troubles. On that day, every Bihari will join Tejashwi in celebrating victory, because on that day, every Bihari will become Bihar's CM — that is, CHANGE MAKER".

Expressing confidence in the BJP-led NDA's win in the Bihar assembly elections, party president J P Nadda said on Monday that these polls are for continuing the state's development, ridding it of infiltrators and stopping the return of 'jungle raj'.

In a post on X after the Election Commission announced the poll schedule, he said the NDA government in Bihar has become synonymous with people's welfare and good governance.

'I have full confidence that the sacred land of Bihar, which is the mother of democracy, will give the BJP and NDA its blessings and massive votes,' he said.

Elections are the democracy's biggest festival, and the primary medium to keep the country and state advancing on the path of development and good governance, he said, welcoming the poll announcement.

Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar said that 69 lakh voters have been deleted in Bihar's voting list due to deaths, non-citizenship, migration, duplication.

The break-up of those who names have been deleted is not available, he said.

Bye-election to the Ghatshila (ST) assembly constituency in Jharkhand will be conducted on November 11, along with the second phase of Bihar polls, the EC said on Monday.

The seat fell vacant after Jharkhand Education Minister Ramdas Soren, 62, died at a private hospital in New Delhi on August 15.
The gazette notification for the by-poll will be issued on October 13.

While the last date of filing nomination is October 21, that of withdrawing of candidature is October 24.
Votes will be counted on November 14, the EC said.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday said the NDA government has pulled Bihar out of 'Jungle Raj' and given it a new direction of development and good governance, and expressed confidence that the people of the state will once again choose politics of development in the coming assembly elections.

Shah's comments came soon after the Election Commission announced the schedule for the assembly elections in Bihar, under which polling will be held on November 6 and 11, while the counting of votes will be done on November 14.

Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar inaugurated a section of the Patna Metro on Monday, hours ahead of the announcement of the assembly elections in the state.

A 3.45-km-long elevated corridor, covering three stations -- Patliputra Bus Terminal, Zero Mile, and Bhoothnath, was opened as part of the "priority corridor".

Kumar also laid the foundation stones for six underground metro stations, including Patna Junction, and a 9.35-km-long tunnel connecting them, as part of corridor 1.

Deputy CMs Samrat Choudhary and Vijay Kumar Singh, along with cabinet colleagues and senior bureaucrats, took a ride on the metro after the inauguration.

The Election Commission will announce the schedule for the assembly polls in the state at 4 pm.

It was the kind of comeback fit for film scripts. A year-and-a-half after his stint with the BJP ended within days as the party developed cold feet over his risque work, Bhojpuri singer-actor Pawan Singh returned – with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and senior BJP ally Upendra Kushwaha present in person to welcome back the star with the right caste credentials, ahead of the Bihar Assembly polls.

Sources said that it is just a matter of time before the BJP seals their new friendship with a ticket for Pawan Singh from the Arrah Assembly seat. Pawan Singh is expected to visit the constituency soon.

The party is counting on a cascading impact in the entire Shahabad region, comprising four districts – Bhojpur, Buxar, Kaimur and Rohtas – and 22 Assembly seats. Pawan Singh belongs to Barhara in Bhojpur. In the 2024 Lok Sabha polls, after he was dropped by the BJP when the Opposition dug out his “vulgar” songs and music videos, the party had been almost wiped out in Shahabad.

DEFENDING THE ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of Bihar’s electoral rolls, the Election Commission of India (ECI) not only held up the 2002–03 roll as the benchmark of voter eligibility, but strongly backed its three-month timeline, and refused to accept the Supreme Court’s suggestion to consider the voter ID card as proof of eligibility.

However, the Commission’s instructions during that 2002–03 intensive revision paint a different picture, according to former ECI officials and Chief Electoral Officers who oversaw the last exercise.

WITH the Election Commission expected to announce Bihar Assembly poll dates any time now, the BJP may have a hard time sifting through its sitting MLAs as it pushes for more seats within the NDA.

The BJP had finished just behind the RJD as the single-largest party in the 2020 elections, and its 80 MLAs, including 22 ministers, are going into the coming elections dragged down by the weight of anti-incumbency. Nitish Kumar, under whose leadership the NDA is contesting in Bihar, is seeking a fifth stint as CM.

While the party is hoping that the series of schemes and programmes announced by the Nitish Kumar-led NDA government in recent days would balance that out, ideally, it would want to go in with new faces – which is easier said than done.

During their meeting with the Election Commission (EC) in Patna on Saturday, there seemed to be a consensus among Bihar’s political parties for fewer phases of voting in the upcoming state Assembly elections.

While the ruling NDA demanded a single phase of voting, the Opposition called for two phases, with both camps pressing for the polls to be held soon after the Chhath festival that begins on October 25.
