Assam’s North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council elections to be held on January 8

Assam’s State Election Commission on Tuesday notified the poll schedule for the North Cachar Hills Autonomous Council and said the tribal autonomous council would vote on January 8 next year.

According to the notification issued by State Election Commissioner Alok Kumar, the district commissioner of Dima Hasao has prepared the final photo-electoral rolls for all the 28 constituencies following relevant provisions of the Assam Autonomous Districts Rules 1951, after Governor Gulab Chand Kataria instructed the commission on July 7 to prepare the rolls for the elections.

Nominations for the election will be accepted till December 21 and the district commissioner will be the returning officer. Polling will be held from 8 am till 4 pm on January 8 and repolling, if necessary, will be held on January 10. The votes will be counted on January 12.

The model code of conduct has come into force with immediate effect.

There are around 1.41 lakh voters and 280 polling stations. A hundred of these have been marked sensitive and 27 of them very sensitive. The commission will deploy CCTV cameras in all polling stations and micro-observers in sensitive polling stations.

The council is run by the BJP, with Debolal Gorlosa serving as the chief executive member.
