Assailants hold Lucknow factory workers captive, decamp with 6,500 kg copper wire

Unidentified assailants held the employees of a factory captive before allegedly decamping with a significant amount of copper wire in Lucknow late on Friday.

While the exact cost of the stolen goods remains unclear, the factory owner told the police that the miscreants allegedly escaped with approximately 6,500 kilograms of copper wire.

According to the police, complainant alleged that during intervening night of Friday and Saturday, around 10 assailants barged into the factory, overpowering the six employees, including a security guard. These employees were held captive while the assailants loaded the copper wire onto their vehicle before disappearing into the night.

On the basis of a complaint by factory owner Sanjay Agarwal, a First Information Report (FIR) has been filed on charges of dacoity at Chinahat police station, said Lucknow DCP Ashish Srivastava.

He added that five teams have been formed to apprehend the culprits.

CCTV footages from the factory and surrounding areas are being reviewed to get clues about the perpetrators, he said.

“We are diligently analysing every lead and working towards a swift resolution,” stated Chinahat Assistant Commissioner Anindya Vikaram Singh. He added that they are trying to collect information about the cost of copper wire taken by assailants.

As part of preliminary investigation the police have recorded the statements of factory employees who said there were six assailants armed with iron rods. None of them had any firearm, they told the police.
