Borders are subject to change and perhaps the region of Sindh, which is currently part of Pakistan, may one day return to India, Defence Minister Rajnath Singh said Sunday.

Speaking at the Sashakt Samaj-Samarth Bharat event organised by the Vishwa Sindhi Hindu Foundation of Associations at Vigyan Bhavan, he said, “Today, the land of Sindh…may not be part of India, but Sindh will always remain part of India civilisationally.”

“As far as land is concerned, borders can change; we do not know, tomorrow Sindh may return to India,” Singh said, adding that the people of Sindh, who had deemed the river of Sindhu or the Indus as holy, would always “remain ours” wherever they were located.

The Defence Minister said that veteran BJP leader L K Advani, who is from the Sindhi community, wrote in a book that Sindhi Hindus, especially those from his generation, have still not accepted the separation of Sindh from India.

Singh said that it was the BJP which always stood in support of the rights and entitlements of the Sindhi community. Former PM A B Vajpayee, he said, had played a pivotal role in 1957 by introducing the first non-governmental Bill to include the Sindhi language in the Eighth Schedule of the Constitution and, while supporting the Sindhi language, had said, “In Sindhi, the soul of India speaks.”
