“The accused was on a two-wheeler. The complainant said the accused was masturbating and that he passed an objectionable comment,” a police officer said.
In a post on social media, the complainant said she and her friend were “disgusted” and “creeped out” and sped away. She said the incident left her thinking whether they should have “yelled” or “confronted” the accused.
“What gives these men the confidence to do something so vile? What kind of thrill do they get from this? When will they be the ones who are scared?” she wrote in the post.
Police said they contacted the victim after they came across the social media post and a case was registered on Monday afternoon. The FIR was lodged under BNS sections 78 (2) (stalking), 75 (2) (sexual harassment) and 79 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of a woman).
The FIR said that the accused followed the women on a scooter with “criminal intension”.
Police said they identified the suspect on the basis of CCTV footage and the victim’s statement.
“The suspect has a previous criminal history, with sexual harassment and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act) cases registered against him. He is currently out on bail in a 2024 case. Several police teams are conducting raids to arrest him,” the police officer said.
