(Photo" X/ @SandeepPathak04)Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Sandeep Kumar Pathak Monday raised concern in Rajya Sabha over the issue of drone activity by Pakistan in the border areas of Punjab, and called for using a zero intrusion policy.
Raising the issue, Pathak said in the House said the matter was directly related to national security and people living in the border areas. Pathak said that around 500 km of the Punjab border touches Pakistan, and the intrusion of drones has increased there in the past several years with around 300-350 drones seen last year.
The AAP lawmaker added it was a matter of concern that the number of drones being neutralised by the security forces was very low. “That means the majority of the drones land in India and fly back,” Pathak said and added that the use of drones by Pakistan at borders was very serious.
“Pakistan is importing drones mostly from China and Turkey. In our country anti-drone technology is not advanced so far and we must acquire that immediately,” Pathak said.
The AAP leader said Pakistan or any such country will use drones only for strategic purposes and not for dropping bombs, except in the rarest of rare cases. “Otherwise they will use it to send information, drugs, arms, ammunition, and for terrorist activity so that it does not come under the notice of the government and they can continue,” Pathak said.
He said that Amritsar and Tarn Taran in Punjab have witnessed increased drone activity.
