3 tourists, taxi driver killed in J-K road mishap

According to the police as many as 17 bus passengers sustained injuries in the mishap.

Three tourists from Maharashtra and their local driver were killed when the taxi they were travelling in collided with a bus at Gund village in Kangan area on the Srinagar-Sonamarg highway on Sunday. According to the police as many as 17 bus passengers sustained injuries in the mishap.

The deceased were identified as Leshia Ashish Pari, Nikki Ashish Pari, Hetal Ashish Pari from Maharashtra, and cab driver Faheem Ahmad of Srinagar.

The injured were rushed to a nearby hospital from where three with serious injuries were shifted to Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS), Srinagar, for advanced treatment. Officials said all the injured were stable.

J-K Police have registered a case and started investigation.

Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and Lt Governor Manoj Sinha condoled the deaths.

“Deeply saddened by the tragic road accident on highway near Gund, Kangan, which has claimed several lives and left many others injured… My heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. Praying for the swift recovery of the injured. Authorities are providing all possible assistance,” Omar posted on X.

In his condolence message, Lt Governor Sinha said: “I am deeply saddened to learn about the loss of precious lives in a tragic road accident in Ganderbal today. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families in this hour of grief. Praying for the early recovery of the injured.”
