EPF Balance 2025: The Employee Provident Fund (EPF) is one of the most prevalent kinds of long-term retirement savings in which both the employee and the employer contribute an equal amount to savings that can be accessed upon retirement or when switching jobs.

Earlier this year, EPFO announced that members can now modify personal information such as their name and date of birth online without being verified by their employer or approved by EPFO.

Additionally, members with e-KYC EPF accounts (Aadhaar seeded) can also file their EPF transfer claims online with Aadhaar OTP (one-time password) directly, eliminating the requirement for employer interaction.

Furthermore, it also has been simpler to check one’s Employee Provident Fund (EPF) balance. From a smartphone, PC, or a basic mobile phone, there are five ways – via the Umang App, EPFO portal, SMS, or missed call – to check your EPF balance efficiently and safely.

i. EPFO Website:

The employee must ensure that his Universal Account Number (UAN) is activated to view the PF passbook on the portal. Every employer who makes an EPF contribution has a 12-digit UAN.

Next, access the EPFO portal and take the following actions: Select the “For Employees” option from the drop-down menu under the “Our Services” page.

Select “Member Passbook” from the “Services” menu, followed by clicking on ‘Member Passbook’ under ‘Services’.

Alternatively, one can directly go to the page: https://passbook.epfindia.gov.in/MemberPassBook/Login.jsp

ii. Through missed call:

If one does not have access to the internet, checking EPF balance via a missed call is one of the simplest ways; however, your phone number should be linked to UAN, along with updated KYC information.

Dial: 9966044425 using your registered number, and it is automatically disconnected after a few rings – in a few seconds, you’ll receive an SMS with your recent EPF balance. This service is free and available to both smartphone and feature phone users.

iii. SMS:

An employee can acquire information about his or her PF balance by sending an SMS to 7738299899. To get the information, enter ‘EPFOHO UAN ENG’. ENG represents the preferred language’s first three characters. The service is offered in English, Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Marathi, Kannada, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, and Bengali.

iv. UMANG App:

Download and install the Umang App on your mobile device via Google Play or the App Store. Open the app and select ‘EPFO’. Now, under ‘Employee Centric Services’, select ‘View Passbook’. Enter your UAN and click Get OTP. A one-time password (OTP) will be given to the mobile number associated with your EPF account. Enter your OTP in the required field and click ‘Login’.
