Zoya Akhtar, Reema Kagti deny drawing from Salman Khan, Katrina Kaif’s life for Made in Heaven: ‘We weren’t thinking…’

Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti clarified that they weren't thinking of Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif while directing the fourth episode of Made In Heaven 2, starring Pulkit Samrat and Elnaaz Norouzi.

Prime Video series Made in Heaven season two has been mired in controversies since its release on August 10. Recently, two of its creators, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, cleared the air on speculation that the fourth episode of the new season draws from the real lives of Bollywood’s once-rumoured couple, Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif.

The fourth episode of Made in Heaven 2 is set around the wedding of top actors Sarafaraz Khan and Leila. Leila hails from Iran, but has made a space for herself in the Hindi film industry. While actor Pulkit Samrat essays the role of Sarfaraz, Leila is played by actor Elnaaz Norouzi. In the episode, Sarfaraz, who is about to announce a new movie with Leila, tries to convince the film’s director to replace her and cast a younger actor opposite him instead.

‘We weren’t really thinking of Salman and Katrina’

As the audience watched the episode, some drew parallels to the lives of Salman and Katrina, who were rumoured to be dating in 2003. Reacting to this, Zoya, who co-directed the episode with Reema, told Mid-Day, “Pulkit is really fun. He’s a really good actor and he’s great fun to work with. I directed the episode in Season 1 with him, and I had a blast. People really liked him in the show. For a lot of shows, there are recurring characters. So, when we were writing, we thought we should get him back and get him married. We weren’t really thinking of Salman and Katrina. But you are, and I guess that’s how art works.”

Reema added that the audience is free to “interpret it” the way they like.

Besides Zoya and Reema, the episodes of Made in Heaven 2 are directed by Alankrita Shrivastava, Neeraj Ghaywan and Nitya Mehra. The show stars Arjun Mathur, Sobhita Dhulipala, Jim Sarbh, Kalki Koechlin, Shashank Arora, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Mona Singh, Trinetra Haldar, Ishwak Singh and Vijay Raaz.

Salman Khan and Katrina Kaif’s next movie

Salman Khan and Katrina will be seen together in the actioner Tiger 3. The film is directed by Maneesh Sharma and will release later in the year on November 10.
