After writer Yashica Dutt’s accusation against the creators of Made in Heaven 2, Zoya Akhtar and Reema Kagti, for unauthorised use of her life’s work, renowned celebrity designer Tarun Tahiliani has also taken to social media to voice his grievances. On his official Instagram account, Tarun accused the show’s makers of incorporating his brand of clothing into the series and attributing them to a fictional label represented by a fictional designer named Akshay Jaiswal in Episode 2 of the web series. The character of designer Akshay Jaiswal was portrayed by actor Kashyap Baldev Shangari.

Tarun Tahiliani contends that Mrunal Thakur, who played a pivotal role in Episode 2, wore garments from his brand. Sharing images of Mrunal dressed in his designs on Instagram, he expresses his disappointment and wrote, “It is most unfortunate when a popular OTT series violates the understanding behind the provision of clothing in the first place! Case in point: Significant portions of the second episode of ‘Made in Heaven,’ were styled using clothes provided by the Tarun Tahiliani studio in good faith to the stylist.”

Tarun added, “Unfortunately, a fictitious designer (actor) representing a fictitious label presented our garments! This is a shocking breach of faith. If this is what the production house intended, they should have engaged a costume designer, had costumes designed, and proceeded as they saw fit.”

He concluded by expressing his hope that such incidents will not occur in future. “Let’s hope that this scenario does not repeat itself with other designers who have graciously lent their work for OTT productions. Furthermore, it is our hope that such actions will never be considered acceptable in the future. Tarun Tahiliani.”

Prior to this, Yashica Dutt, an alumnus of Columbia University and the author of Coming Out As Dalit, alleged that the show’s creators based the character portrayed by Radhika Apte in Episode 5 on her life story without her permission and without offering proper credit. Responding to these claims, Zoya Akhtar on Thursday posted a comprehensive note on Instagram, refuting Yashica’s claim.

Made In Heaven Season 2 premiered on Amazon Prime Video on August 10. It also starred Sobhita Dhulipala, Arjun Mathur, Shivani Raghuvanshi, Shashank Arora, Vijay Raaz, Mona Singh, Trinetra Haldar, Ishwaak Singh, Kalki Koechlin, Jim Sarbh, Sanjay Kapoor, Neelam and Sameer Soni.
