On Monday, Kim Soo-hyun held a press conference to personally clarify his stance on the controversy regarding the late actor Kim Sae-ron, who died by suicide. While Kim Soo-hyun accepted his past relationship with Kim Sae-ron for the first time, he refuted claims that he dated her when she was a minor. At press conference, Kim Soo-hyun, however, didn’t address another controversy surrounding him – his co-star Sulli’s death and her facing online wrath after performing an explicit scene in their film Real.
Now, Sulli’s brother, Choi Da Hee, has reacted to Kim Soo-hyun’s press conference, calling it ‘predictable.’ Choi had alleged Kim Soo-hyun’s role in pressurising Sulli to perform the explicit scene in Real, which led to the late actor facing online harassment. Reacting to Soo-hyun’s press conference, Choi said, “Kim Soo-hyun’s press conference was so predictable that it wasn’t even surprising. We watched it expressionlessly,” as quoted by Koreaboo.
Choi pointed out how his family faced distress after Sulli faced online scrutiny for her role in Real. “Due to the controversy surrounding the late Kim Sae Ron, the media became noisy. There were many posts that seemed to refer to my sister’s situation, which caused us stress,” he said.
Choi had alleged that while a body double was promised to shoot the controversial scene, she wasn’t used in the film and Sulli performed the scene herself. Choi had alleged that he hadn’t received an explanation for the same. However, he also avoided blaming Kim Soo-hyun entirely for his sister’s death. “It cannot be definitively said that it was solely because of Real or Kim Soo-hyun. It is a well-known fact that she suffered from malicious comments after the movie was released. There were also personal aspects to her struggles,” he said.
Meanwhile, Koreaboo reported a former staff member claiming that the explicit scenes, featuring Sulli, were added after Real saw a switch of directors. Earlier, the film was being helmed by Lee Jung Sub and later Kim Soo-hyun’s cousin Lee Sa Rang took the reins of the film.
A netizen posted a write-up on an online discussion portal, quoting a former staff member who worked on Real. It read, “There were originally no bed scenes, and the special appearances of the two female celebrities weren’t part of the script. The movie wasn’t at the level to be criticized as a bad movie. I almost joined the production team as a scripter (they show the full scenario to scripters).”
It further read, “The original director wrote the script, but Kim Soo-hyun’s cousin re-arranged it. I didn’t work for the movie, but I heard from acquaintances that Lee Jung Sub did film parts of the movie, but after Lee Sa Rang, who knows nothing about the film, took over, he added extra scenes and ruined so many parts of the movie.”
