“Naatu Naatu” lyricist Chandrabose, who was recently on the stage of the 95th Academy Awards to pick up the trophy for Best Original Song, has opened up about the song’s new admirer. Chandrabose shared he recently met Hollywood superstar Tom Cruise who told him how he liked the SS Rajamouli directorial RRR and its song “Naatu Naatu”.
While speaking to Sakshi TV about his Oscar win, Chandrabose shared, “When I met Tom Cruise, I walked up to him and introduced myself. He said, ‘wow, I love RRR, I love Naatu Naatu’. To hear the word Naatu come from a legendary actor like Tom Cruise, it’s a matter of happiness.” Cruise, whose film Tom Gun: Maverick was nominated in various categories at this year’s Oscars, gave the event a miss as his team said he was shooting for Mission Impossible 8.
Earlier, Chandrabose had spoken about writing most of the lyrics of “Naatu Naatu” in half a day. He had told ANI, “I wrote 90% of the song within half a day and rest 10% took 1.7 yrs. My effort, hard work and patience have paid off.” Composed by MM Keeravani and sung by Kaala Bhairava and Rahul Sipligunj, “Naatu Naatu” created history by bringing the first-ever Oscar trophy to India in the Best Original Song category.
Ever since the release of RRR in October last year, its song “Naatu Naatu” was being celebrated for its foot-tapping beats, its synchronised dance steps and its joyous vibe. Not just in India, but the song found its admirers in international borders as well. People danced in the aisles when the song played in the theaters.
