Despite Pushpa 2: The Rule continuing its phenomenal run in theatres and nearing the Rs 1,600 crore mark at the global box office, its makers remain under pressure as the tragic incident during the film’s premiere on December 4, where a woman lost her life and her son was injured in a stampede-like situation, has weighed heavily on the team, especially actor Allu Arjun. Adding to the strain, the Telugu star has been served a notice to appear before the police on Tuesday as part of the ongoing investigation into the incident.

In the meantime, a comment made by Pushpa 2 director Sukumar has caught widespread attention now. While attending a promotional event for director S Shankar’s Ram Charan-starrer Game Changer, Sukumar was asked to name one thing he would like to leave behind. Without hesitation, he quipped, “cinema,” surprising everyone. As he burst into laughter, Ram Charan, seated beside him, quickly grabbed the microphone from Sukumar and said, “No, no, it won’t be happening.”

Sukumar and Ram Charan previously worked together in the action drama Rangasthalam, which was both a critical and commercial success. During the Game Changer event, Sukumar recalled that he had anticipated Charan would win a National Award for his performance in Rangasthalam. “But seeing his performance in Game Changer’s climax, I have a similar feeling. He will definitely get a National Award.” It’s worth noting that Allu Arjun received his first National Film Award for Best Actor for his role in Sukumar’s Pushpa: The Rise (2021), becoming the first Telugu actor to achieve this honour.

While Pushpa 2 continues to set box office records, it has been embroiled in a controversy since the December 4 premiere at Sandhya Theatre in Hyderabad. The event attracted an overwhelming crowd of fans eager to see Allu Arjun, leading to chaos and overcrowding, and tragically, the situation escalated, resulting in the death of a 35-year-old woman and injuries to her eight-year-old son.

Following the incident, Hyderabad police filed a case against Allu Arjun, his security team and the theatre management, based on a complaint by the deceased woman’s family. Arjun was arrested on December 13 but was granted interim bail by the Telangana High Court the same day, resulting in his release on December 14.
