Filmmaker SS Rajamouli recently opened up about making his version of the Indian epic Mahabharata. The director, who has been riding strong on the mega success of his last release RRR, said at an event that he would make it into a ten-part movie.

“If I get to the point of making Mahabharata, it would take me a year just to read the versions of Mahabharata that are available in the country. At present, I can only assume that it would be a 10-part film,” Rajamouli said while speaking with his brother-in-law Dr AV Guruva Reddy.

It is Rajamouli’s long-held dream of making a feature on the Hindu epic. Speaking about the same, he added, “Every film I make, I feel that I’m learning something to ultimately make Mahabharata. So that’s my dream and every step is towards that.”

In an earlier interaction with his RRR star Ram Charan, Rajamouli had said that his version of Mahabharata will be completely different from what we know of the material and its characters: “The characters that I write for my Mahabharata will not be the same as you’ve seen or read before. I will tell Mahabharata in my own way. Mahabharata (story) will be the same, but the characters will be enhanced and the inter-relationships between the characters will be added.”

Rajamouli’s last release RRR hit cinemas in 2022 and quickly became a global phenomenon, with the movie ultimately earning an Oscar in the Best Original Song category for its dance track “Naatu Naatu.” Rajamouli is now focusing his energies on his next high-budget flick with Mahesh Babu.
