Filmmaker SS Rajamouli’s film RRR released one year ago after being delayed twice due to the pandemic. However, soon after its release RRR went on an international journey that recently culminated with an Oscar win for ‘Naatu Naatu’. As the film’s release completed one year on Saturday, Rajamouli’s son and filmmaker SS Karthikeya wrote a long, emotional note describing the film’s journey.

In a long note shared on social media, Karthikeya wrote, “Today is deeply emotional as it marks the completion of 1 year since the release of RRR, and the most glorious 365 days of uninterrupted celebrations. I’d like to ask you for a moment to share my love and thoughts.”

The young filmmaker the further explained how they decided to bring together Jr NTR and Ram Charan together for the film, which marked one of the biggest casting coup in the Telugu film industry. He also explained how Naatu Naatu was conceived and how choreographer Prem Rakshith kept rotating his team of choreographers because they would get tired of practicing while making steps.

In the second slide of the gratitude note, he started with addressing his fans, “We believe that the main reason Naatu Naatu reached the Oscar stage is our fans and their unconditional love and unprecedented support until it became a global sensation. They made the song immortal not only on social media by carrying on their shoulder (IYKYK) but also created euphoria which made it a part of sub-culture in many countries.”

He then thanked his partners, who helped in making RRR a global phenomenon and increase its reach. The filmmaker ended the two-slide long note with a promise, “They say.. teamwork makes the dream work! But when the dream is a wild passion project like RRR,teamwork becomes a precondition and not a priority. While everyone says RRR scripted history, it has transcended beyond a film to become a phenomenon, era, milestone and pride in all our careers. We will carry this in our hearts with humility and work more to make our nation more proud.”

The official Twitter handle of the movie also tweeted the completion of one year of the film’s release. Uploading a poster of the film’s win, the caption read, “It’s been a year since #RRRMovie was released and it is still running in theatres somewhere in the world, getting housefuls. This feeling is bigger than any award, and we cannot thank you all enough for all the love you have showered throughout.”

Naatu Naatu was composed by MM Keeravani and sung by Rahul Sipligunj and Kaala Bhairava. The song’s lyrics are given by Chandrabose, who also accepted the Academy Award at the Oscar night. RRR also starred Bollywood actors Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn in cameo roles.
