The trailer of the Prashanth Neel directorial was released at 7:19 pm on Friday. Starring Prabhas in the lead role, the film is an action-packed drama which has been in the making for over two years now. It also marks the Telugu debut of Malayalam star Prithviraj. Shruti Haasan, Jagapati Babu, Eshwari Rao, and Sriya Reddy are the other actors in the film.
Hombale Films, the production company behind the movie, had earlier released Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire’s teaser, which gave a sneak peek into Salaar’s world. It was only through the teaser that the makers revealed that there is a second part to Salaar because the upcoming film is called Salaar Part 1: Ceasefire.

Recently, during the promotion of his film, Prashanth Neel discussed how the idea of Salaar originated in his mind. He said, “The idea of making Saalar had come to my mind 15 years ago, but after making my first film Ugram, I got busy with KGF which took me almost 8 years to make. That is, we first started planning KGF and by the time its second part was released 8 years had passed. In this way, the idea of making this film was already in my mind and during Covid, when KGF 2 was not released, we all had a lot of time because we were all sitting at home. So I worked on it a little.”
Salaar will hit theatres on December 22, a day after the release of Shah Rukh Khan‘s Dunki and will face strong competition at the box office. Addressing the same, Neel told The Times Of India that no filmmaker desires a clash, whether it’s with a newcomer’s film or with a veteran like Shah Rukh Khan. “But it is a very unpleasant situation for anybody to move their date to somebody else’s date,” he said.

Salaar will be releasing in more than 5000 locations across the world. Prathyangira Cinemas, one of the overseas distribution companies of Salaar, announced on X that the Prabhas-starrer will be released on 1979+ screens across North America, which is a record number for an Indian film. The post, which was also shared by Prabhas, read, “A grand salute from our side to the box office bulldozer. Marking the Man’s birthday year with the locations we are releasing in North America. 1979 Locations – ALL TIME RECORD RELEASE FOR ANY INDIAN FILM.”

In an interview with Pinkvilla, Salaar director Prasanth Neel said, “Salaar is a story of two friends, who become the biggest enemies. Friendship is the core emotion of Salaar. We are telling half the story in Salaar: Part 1 – Ceasefire. We are going to show this journey of friends over the course of two films. The audience will get a glimpse of the world that we have created in the Salaar trailer, which drops on December 1.”

During an on-stage chat with Radio Nasha, Tinnu Anand said, “He narrates everything to the actor and he does not rest till he gets it, no matter who the actor is in front of him. It could be Prabhas, the biggest hero down South. It could be Prithviraj, it could be Tinnu Anand, it could be other actors on the set but he knows exactly what he wants from them and not only that, he is one director who has come to know that it’s not the actors in front, who make up the scene, it’s the people behind also. Those 200 people in the street.”
“The fact that we are releasing with Hirani sir and Shah Rukh sir’s film, leave everything else, as a film lover I love it! I am excited that during the holiday season, you have two giant films, by two giant filmmakers, starring two big stars, and diametrically opposite in every possible parameter like the story and narrative,” Prithviraj said during a recent chat with Hindustan Times.
“Amitabh Bachchan is the biggest inspiration for all my movies. There are a lot of movies that he did where he played the hero but he was also the villain.
