After the epic Barbenheimer battle, where Greta Gerwig’s Barbie and Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer engaged in an ultimate showdown at the box office in July, the world of cinema is set to witness another high-octane war between two of the most anticipated Indian films of 2023 — Rajkumar Hirani’s Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Dunki and Prashanth Neel’s Prabhas-starrer Salaar Part 1 – Ceasefire.

Amidst substantial anticipation for these films, advance bookings for Dunki and Salaar have already begun and the two films have so far recorded Rs 4.46 crore and Rs 3.58 crore, respectively, as reported by industry tracker Sacnilk. While Dunki is a comedy-drama, Salaar is touted as an epic action thriller, marking the return of “Rebel Star” Prabhas to the realm of mass actioners.

Likening working with an actor to going on a date and getting married since it takes about 6-8 months to get to know each other, Neel recently told ETimes that he “courted Prabhas for four months for Salaar”. Emphasising the need for an extended period of collaboration, he noted that given everyone’s reserved nature, spending a couple of years working on a film with an actor on a daily basis is essential to crafting a compelling piece of work. The filmmaker also stressed the importance of building off-screen rapport with an actor to translate into on-screen chemistry.

Mentioning that his primary desire was to present Prabhas in the way he initially fell in love with the star after watching films like Varsham, Chathrapati etc, much before the Baahubali movies, Neel asserted that he refrained from altering Salaar’s story to align with the current environment, Prabhas’ market value or the fact that some of his recent films did not perform well at the box office.

He also noted a striking resemblance between Prabhas and KGF star Yash, highlighting their shared commitment and hands-on dedication to their fans and work.

Emphasising that the violence in Salaar is driven by emotion, Neel asserted that there is no necessity for violence just for the sake of violence. He clarified that if Salaar is categorised as a mass movie, it’s solely due to the underlying emotion the film carries. He added that the violence depicted in the film is limited to what its emotion demands.
