Mondays are often the litmus test for any film in its opening week. The first day, be it a Thursday or a Friday, gets an assured opening depending on the range of the names involved. The weekend too is sorted considering the audience’s mindset to watch a film during the holidays. What truly is the strength of a film is to see how good it holds on the first working day after the opening weekend, which for all intents and purposes is the first Monday. Many films this year have failed to carry on the momentum of the opening weekend into the subsequent week, and the Monday numbers proved to be the yardstick of the film’s eventual run. Now, the Pushpa 2: The Rule juggernaut is facing its first big challenge. And according to early reports, the movie has done almost Rs 20 crores in advance booking just in the morning show.

Having an almost 23.75% occupancy rate for the Telugu version and 22.42 % for the Hindi version on a working day morning is a strong showing. Considering the film released across the country in maximum number of screens, it won’t be a surprise if it manages to make similar numbers to its first Friday. In the domestic market, Pushpa 2, across all six versions – Hindi, Telugu, Tamil, Malayalam, Kannada, and Bengali, made Rs 93.8 crore on Day 2 (Friday). So, it is expected that the Monday numbers would be similar to this, and end up pushing the worldwide collection to almost Rs 900 crore.

If this trend continues, Pushpa 2: The Rule might break into the Rs 1000 crore club within a week of its release. It has already become the fastest film to breach the Rs 600 crore club, and it is continuing to break records like it is just another Monday at the office. In comparison, the domestic numbers of Prabhas’ Kalki 2898 AD, which is the highest grossing film of the year so far, was at Rs 494.5 crore at the end of Week 1. Pushpa 2: The Rule crossed the Rs 500 crore mark in India within four days of the release.

With the Rs 1000 crore club entry not a pipedream anymore, it would be interesting to see where Pushpa 2 lands in the overall scheme of things. SS Rajamouli’s Baahubali 2 currently holds the top spot in the domestic collections of Indian films with a whopping Rs 1416.9 crore in gross collections, followed by Prashanth Neel’s KGF 2 with Rs 1000.85 crore. The question on everyone’s mind now is whether Pushpa 2 will join them in the prestigious Rs 1000 crore club.
