Filmmaker Prashanth Neel is currently basking in the box office success of his film Salaar, starring Prabhas and Prithviraj Sukumaran in the lead roles. The film has already zoomed past the Rs 550 crore mark worldwide. However, the film’s reviews are not as favourable and a section of the audience has complained about not following through the events of the film because of its complex storyline. But Prashanth believes that the audience needs to watch Salaar Part 2 to make sense of the first part of the film.

While speaking to Pinkvilla about Salaar: Part 1 Ceasefire, Neel said, “This is just the first three hours of a six-hour movie. I wouldn’t put one single character there which wouldn’t make sense to the entire story. When Salaar 2 comes out, that will make a lot of sense to you. I did what I did for the sake of the entire story.”

Salaar is the story of Khansaar, ruled by menacing crime lords. Varadha Raja Mannar, played by Prithviraj Sukumaran, is ready to go to any lengths to claim the city’s lordship. But, in this battle, his friend Deva, essayed by Prabhas, turns into an enemy.

Neel continued to explain how all the characters of Salaar: Part 1 would make sense after Salaar: Part 2 is out, “I am driven by the story, I am not trying to think what the audience is going to find easy or difficult at that point of time. I still have half a story to tell you. When you watch the entire story, then you will know whether the characters are still that complex or not. The idea is not to make something complex enough for people not to understand, especially in an emotional film like this which is about two friends. It has to be straight.”

The filmmaker, who has given superhits in KGF and KGF 2, had people telling him that it was “hard” for them to follow what was happening in Salaar and they had to watch the film twice to understand it. Since he did not intend on making a complex film, he said, “Probably, I will learn from this experience and do a better job of it the next time.” But in the next moment, he refused to change anything about Salaar: Part 2, the screenplay of which is already ready. “I won’t change the story. I am not going to change one bit because of the feedback that I have gotten. I have already followed the story and as a director, it is my job to narrate a story the way it is written,” he said.
