Actor Nagarjuna never shies away from professing his love for his family on any stage, and even social media. We can often see him writing long posts about his family, and be the official PR for any film or event involving them. So, it wasn’t new to see him attend the success meet of his son and actor Naga Chaitanya’s recent film, Thandel, directed by Chandoo Mondeti. But what really made the event special was Nagarjuna’s candidness, which also reflected his deeply emotional side.

Taking centrestage, Nagarjuna started his speech by saying, “It’s been ages since I’ve attended a success meet. I am very very happy.” Going on to thank producer Allu Aravind and Bunny Vas, Nagarjuna said everything came together to ensure a success was delivered in the Akkineni household. Reminiscing on how, on the release day of Thandel, he was there at PM Narendra Modi’s office along with his family, Nagarjuna said, “I didn’t carry my phone with me, and I didn’t know how the public was responding to Thandel. Finally, after the meeting, I switched on the phone, and I received relentless phone calls and messages from everyone. It was then I realised how there are scores of Akkineni fans, and how they celebrated this victory as their own. As I said, it has been so long since I’ve been part of a success meet.”

Going into details about what he liked in Thandel, and how director Chandoo has crafted the movie, Nagarjuna said, “What you have done for Chaitanya is fantastic. You have brought out the actor in him.” Showering praise on composer Devi Sri Prasad, and calling him his ‘rockstar,’ Nagarjuna then moved on to talk about Sai Pallavi, who plays the lead alongside Naga Chaitanya in Thandel. “She never ceases to amaze us. She is incredible. Words don’t do justice to what she does on screen. The purity and innocence she displays in real life is reflected in her films too.”

Saving the best for last, Nagarjuna spoke about how he could see Naga Chaitanya transform in to Raju for Thandel. “One day I asked him how the shooting was going on, and he explained about how tough it must be for actual fisherfolk to leave their homes and toil in the seas. He was inspired by them. With folded hands, I must salute the hardships they go through to do what they do,” said Nagarjuna, adding, “I am so happy for Chaitanya. I am so happy to see the smile on his face. Throughout the film, he maintained the character, and there were many scenes where he excelled. I have seen my dad do such performances in many films. He reminded me of my father (the legendary actor and Dadasaheb Phalke award recipient Akkineni Nageswara Rao),” signed off Nagarjuna to thunderous applause and emotional cheers.
