Happy Birthday Anushka Shetty: The Baahubali star’s five must watch films
Happy Birthday Anushka Shetty: After being in the business for over a decade, the actor who played Devasena in Baahubali, has become one of the top choices of filmmakers down south. With a fan following at par with her male counterparts, she is a highly bankable actor today. Here's wishing Anushka a happy 36th.

There is more to Anushka Shetty than just being the Baahubali star. The south Indian sweetheart who turned 36 on Tuesday, is only getting better with age and continues to dominate the big screen and hearts of millions. For more than 10 years, Anushka has been one of the top choices of filmmakers down south and she is one of the few female actors who has managed to gain a fan following at par with her male counterparts.
Born as Sweety Shetty in Mangalore, Anushka began acting in films in 2005. And she instantly clicked with the audience of Tamil and Telugu films. While she is good at speaking Kannada, she is yet to make her debut in Sandalwood.
Anushka scaled new heights following the epic success of Baahubali: The Beginning and she topped it with her performance in Baahubali: The Conclusion. Her Devasena act and the chemistry with her co-star Prabhas aka Baahubali swept fans off their feet worldwide. She has a slew of other blockbusters to her credit, including a few solo movies that became big hits at the box office. So, if you have been thinking of following the previous works of Anushka, here is the list of five films that you should start with.
Arundhati: It won’t be wrong to say this 2009 fantasy horror film made her a formidable force in the film industry. Besides setting the box office on fire, the film also gave the South Indian film industry a blockbuster template to make supernatural thrillers. Many filmmakers tried to do their own version of Arundhati with little success.
Vedam: Not many female actors of her league would have agreed to play a role of prostitute in this 2010 Telugu drama, which received critical acclaim. She delivered an impressive performance in the film even reprised her role when it was remade in Tamil as Vaanam in 2011. It shows her determination to challenge the stereotypes and upset the status quo in the film industry.
Billa: The sleek gangster drama was a remake of the 2007 Tamil film of the same name, which had Thala Ajith in the lead role. Before Baahubali film series, Anushka and Prabhas had set the big screen on fire with their sparkling chemistry in the film. She had played an ultra-glamour role of a tough girl who seeks to avenge her brother’s death.
Inji Iduppazhagi: Not just all style, but Anushka is also an actor full of substance. Female actors are expected to have a certain body type to ensure their job offers don’t dry up. While she rocked the bikini look in Billa, Anushka gained about 20 kgs to play an overweight woman, who is love with a prince charming, played by Arya. She showed that heroines come in all sizes and shapes.
Deiva Thirumagal: The directorial outing of AL Vijay, which was loosely based on I Am Sam, had her playing an interesting character of a lawyer, who takes on a big fish to reunite a father with a developmental disability (Vikram) with his daughter.
