The initial response to Guntur Kaaram was mixed. There were speculations that the film would turn out to be a flop after the first-day shows. However, in a matter of seven days, the Mahesh Babu-starrer has earned more than Rs 212 crore worldwide, according to the makers. In a recent media interaction, the movie’s producer Naga Vamsi opened up about the initial bad response to the film.

Vamsi said that a few sections of the media and fans didn’t like Guntur Kaaram, but the majority of the people loved it. He added that eventually the film has become a hit and has crossed the break-even point. However, the producer admitted that it was a mistake to have screened early morning shows for the movie as it sent the wrong message to fans.

Naga Vamsi said that films like Salaar are mass cinema with a certain kind of high but Guntur Kaaram was unlike such films. “This is a family cinema… a Trivikram film. I’m not comparing them but it was a mistake to release a Trivikram sir film, a mother-son bond film, at 1 am. It was not a good choice.” He added that because of the title and releasing early in the morning, fans felt that the movie is more of a mass film, which led to the initial disappointment.

However, with the film getting a good response from the family audience, Vamsi said that they are not concerned about the negative reviews anymore.

Directed by Trivikram Srinivas, the film also stars Ramya Krishnan, Jagapathi Babu, Sreeleela, Meenakshi Chaudhry, and Prakash Raj in important roles. This marks the third collaboration of Trivikram and Mahesh Babu, who earlier made blockbusters Athadu and Khaleja. Guntur Kaaram, despite being a hit, hasn’t created the same impact as their previous collaborations.
