Game Changer box office collection day 4: Director S Shankar’s maiden Telugu film, the Ram Charan and Kiara Advani starrer Game Changer, is struggling to make an impact at the box office. According to industry tracking website Sacnilk, the film collected a mere Rs 8.5 crore nett in India on its fourth day (Monday, January 13), taking the total to Rs 97 crore nett in India.

The film, which also stars Anjali and SJ Suryah, had opened to a promising Rs 51 crore nett in India on its first day. However, it witnessed a steady decline over the weekend, collecting Rs 21.6 crore net on Saturday and Rs 15.9 crore net on Sunday. The film’s gross total stands at Rs 105.7 crore.

The performance of Game Changer is being closely observed, as it marks Ram Charan’s first film after the global success of RRR, his blockbuster film with SS Rajamouli and NTR Jr. The success of RRR has raised expectations from Ram Charan’s future projects, and Game Changer is no exception.

Despite releasing during the festive season, Game Changer has failed to capitalise on the advantage. The film faces stiff competition from other releases, including Balakrishna-starrer Daaku Maharaaj and Venkatesh-starrer Sankranthiki Vasthunam.

The occupancy rates for Game Changer have been disappointing, with the Telugu version registering a mere 12.79% occupancy in the morning and 21.60% occupancy in the afternoon shows on January 13. The evening show occupancy was slightly better at 25.07%. The numbers for Tamil and Hindi shows are even lower.

The film’s collections are expected to pick up over the next few days, with Sankranthi, Kanuma, and Mukkanuma falling on January 14, 15, and 16. However, the film’s poor performance so far has been a major setback for the makers.

Game Changer has also been plagued by piracy. According to the film’s team, before the release, the film’s producers and a few team members were threatened through social media and messaging platforms like WhatsApp. The culprits demanded money from producers and threatened to leak the pirated version if their demands were not fulfilled. Two days before the release, important plot twists were spitefully shared on social media. After the release, an HD pirated print was leaked on various internet platforms and Telegram.

The film’s team has officially filed a complaint with Cybercrime police and provided evidence against the 45 individuals involved in these criminal activities. An investigation is underway to find whether this group committed these crimes independently or as a group or had any external support.

The film received mixed reviews upon release, which may have also contributed to its poor box office performance. SCREEN’s Avinash Ramchandran gave the movie a rating of two-and-a-half-stars. In their review, they wrote, “Despite the film blowing hot and cold with an erratic consistency, the Ram Charan-Shankar film is truly held together by consistently good performances.”
