Double iSmart X review: Netizens call Puri Jagannadh’s film a ‘commercial hit’, praise Ram Pothineni’s ‘energy’

Double iSmart is a sequel to the 2019 film iSmart Shankar. The sequel of the film also stars Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in the role of an antagonist.

Five years after the successful release of iSmart Shankar, Puri Jagannadh and Ram Pothineni have returned with its sequel, Double iSmart. The sci-fi action thriller, also starring Bollywood star Sanjay Dutt in the role of an antagonist, released in theatres on Independence Day.  While the Telugu drama has opened to mixed reviews by critics, here’s a look at how netizens are liking the film. Double iSmart also marks the first film of filmmaker Puri Jagannadh after his 2022 film Liger (starring Vijay Deverakonda and Ananya Panday), which tanked at the box office.

An X user called Double iSmart a “commercial hit” and said it has a “solid actor like Ram Pothineni, a glamorous heroine like Kavya Thapar, superhit songs from Mani Sharma, mass moments, and a solid plot.” However, responses here were also mixed with many terming it “waste of money and time”.

Another user wrote, “Ram ante Energy Energy Ante Ram” (Ram is Energy Energy is Ram).

A user expressed his happiness in seeing Puri Jagannadh return in the director’s chair. He called Double iSmart “super hit” and praised Puri Jagannadh’s dialogues, Mani Sharma’s music and Ram Pothineni’s energy in the film.

One of them called Ram Pothineni’s film a “complete vintage Puri mark film”.

Meanwhile there were others who called it a “Waste of money.” A user wrote, “Save your precious money.”

Double iSmart has collected around Rs 4.43 crore by 4 pm on its opening day, according to early estimates by industry tracker Sacnilk.

The film is a sequel to the 2019 film iSmart Shankar. Written and directed by Puri Jagannadh, iSmart Shankar was released on 18 July and became a commercial blockbuster. Made on a modest budget of Rs 15-20 crore, the film went on to earn around Rs 85 crore at the box office.
