Shark Tank India Season 4, which is currently streaming on SonyLIV, recently saw a team of founders Rajat Vij and Ram Niwas, who came with their company called Hire For Care. Raj and Ram are both single fathers and they shared their journey, which left the ‘sharks’ quite emotional. They came in asking for Rs 36 lakh for 3 percent equity of their company ,valuing it at Rs 12 crore.

Rajat spoke about his son Aryan, who was diagnosed with Cerebral Palsy soon after his birth. Rajat shared that he is a single parent and cares for his son all by himself. He said that families sometimes get frustrated when there is a child with special needs in the house and some parents tend to give up. His co-founder Ram, who is also a single father, shared that his wife died in a tragic car accident just 20 days before filming the pitch. He has two children aged 12 and 1. Rajat said that he did not tell Ram about the pitch when he got the confirmation from the team of the show as his wife had just passed away. However, when he shared this information, Ram said that he would definitely come on the show for the welfare of the business.

Kunal Bahl called them “strong” and Vineeta Singh said they were “inspiring men” who could be seen as “role model for Indian men.” Rajat and Ram explained their business as a network of nannies where parents can get certified nannies for different needs, which includes special children. The founders insisted that this market was completely untouched in India but as they spoke more about their business, the ‘sharks’ realised that the founders were trying to expand in the regular nanny market, which did not align with their core business philosophy. The founders said that they were not taking any salaries at the moment but would start taking salary of Rs 50,000 each from the next financial year.

Anupam Mittal was very impressed with the founders but asked them to focus on the nanny market for kids with special needs and made them an offer of exactly what they want. Vineeta also made them the same offer on the condition that they would fully pivot and focus on just the special needs side of the business. As the other ‘sharks’ showed interest, Anupam proposed that they can all give Rs 36 lakh for 5 percent, so each ‘shark’ gets 1 percent, and treat this as a friends and family round. He said that after making the pivot and proving the new side of the business, they can all invest in the next round as well. The founders agreed and he deal was locked.

Vineeta clarified that this had “zero element of sympathy” because she was confident that “any other entrepreneur can give up, but you guys won’t.” Peyush endorsed her statement and said that he has no doubt about their capabilities of building this business.
