Shark Tank India 3: Shocked judges respond as pitchers fail to cite sales figures, Vineeta Singh says ‘dhandha nahi pata hai’

In a recent episode of Shark Tank India season 3, pitchers Sandhya Seshadri and Ashnee Gajaria who co-own the brand Niblerzz managed to get a deal of Rs 10 lakh for 5 % equity despite failing to impress 'sharks'.

Shark Tank India 3 episode saw entrepreneurs pitching their brand Niblerzz  which deals in fruit gummies, buttercups and lollipops, with the tagline “Bye, Bye Sugar.” Co-founders Sandhya Seshadri and Ashnee Gajaria, demanded Rs 50 lakh for 3% equity during their pitch, however, they failed to impress most of the sharks. While the taste of their products failed to convince the sharks, their lack of understanding of business and high price proposition were among some of the reasons behind sharks opting out.

When the duo entered the tank, Vineeta Singh, CEO and co-founder of Sugar Cosmetics joked, “I am taking offence to your tagline. I am out of here!” During their pitch when the entrepreneurs, both with a sound background in advertising, offered gummies, peanut buttercups and lollipops made without any artificial ingredients to sharks, they seemed unimpressed. Vineeta highlighted that their products were overpriced for the Indian market. “Your lollipops are too small. They’re the size of Mango Bite which is sold for Re 1 only and you’re selling each unit for Rs 15 which is insane!” exclaimed Vineeta.

Aman Gupta, who was disappointed by the taste, reacted, “Mujhe lollipop ka taste hi samajh mein aa raha (I can’t feel the taste of lollipop).” Unanimously the sharks agreed that the lollipops lacked taste or flavour, to which the pitchers responded,  “We haven’t received any negative feedback from children or customers.”

Further, when asked about their business, the pitchers failed to explain their sales and business strategy, giving sharks the impression that they lacked the knowledge of their ‘dhandha’. They appeared quite confused about their sales figures. “Aapko apna dhandha nahin pata hai (You don’t know your sales)! The understanding of the business bahot kaccha so I am out,” said Vineeta, followed by Anupam Mittal who also backed out. “Aapko business ki samajh nahin hai. Numbers unko nahin pata hai. Bacche ki jaan loge kya?  (You don’t understand business and sales. You aren’t aware of your sales figures),” he said.

Peyush Bansal, who followed suit, said, “Your communication is weak and you don’t have the depth of the business. You are in the early stages of finding the product market fit. I advise you to focus on a hero product when you expand and dedicate yourself to highlighting one particular product. I am out of this but I wish you all the best.” ‘Shark’ Azhar Iqubal also opted out of the deal citing that it was too early for him to invest in their business.  “I hope going forward you will find the right product in the healthy lollipop segment,” he added.

Despite expressing doubts in the beginning, Aman Gupta was the only one to give an offer of Rs 10 lakh for 5 % equity and Rs 40 lakh debt at 10 % for two years. “I think the product segment is strong and the entrepreneurs are good. Chalo mil kar lollipop bechte hain (Let’s sell lollipops together!),” he said as he finalised the deal with Sandhya and Ashnee.
