Salman Zaidi on Sunday was announced as the winner of Vikas Gupta-hosted MTV Ace of Space 2. The Hyderabad boy defeated Adnan Shaikh, Baseer Ali, Shruti Sinha, Prakruti Mishra, Krissann Barretto and Rashami Jha to take home the winner’s trophy and a cash prize of Rs five lakh.

Post his big win, Salman exclusively spoke to indianexpress.com and shared that he did hope to take home the trophy. He shared, “I was on the show with many popular faces, some established actors and reality stars. Many thought that I would not be able to survive so long. I think I was the underdog who came to prove himself on this platform. And with the love of the public, I managed to take home the trophy.”

When asked what made the audience vote for him, Salman Zaidi said, “I come from a small town and a very humble background. And here I was competing with stars. All this usually happens in a movie and when they saw that in real, people connected with me. I can never thank them for showering me with so much love.”

Talking about the highlights of his journey, the 22-year-old said, “The first was, of course, meeting Krissann. Through the show, she has become a very important part of my life. And secondly, managing to make my mark among the public who voted me as the winner of the show.”

Salman Zaidi shared that while his relationship with Krissann was considered fake, it was organic for them, and for the public to see. He said, “We started as friends and then developed feelings for each other. Everyone is entitled to their opinion, but we are a real couple. And now after managing to keep our bond strong in a captive reality show, we are excited to start a new journey in the real world. I know it will only grow stronger now.”

Interestingly, Salman and finalist Baseer Ali have been friends for a long time. But during the show, the equations between the two changed, and Baseer’s mother even went to the extent of accusing Salman of backstabbing her son. Clarifying his stand, the boxer said, “With all due respect, she is a mother, and her son would always be right for her. We both made mistakes and played a game, but he is still a dear friend to me. Towards the end of the show, I did try to make up for whatever I did for the sake of our old friendship. It was a competition, but it can never affect our bond.”

Stating that interacting with the host and mastermind Vikas Gupta turned out to be a learning experience, the Ace of Space 2 winner said, “He really taught us a lot. Throughout he was the mentor one wants as they step into the real world. The biggest learning that I got from him was that till the time you are not happy with yourself, you can never make anyone else happy.”
