Actor-comedian Kapil Sharma suffered a setback in life in 2017 when his film Firangi flopped and his show The Kapil Sharma Show went off air. He struggled with alcoholism, depression and anxiety at that time and many wrote him off. But it was his now-wife and then-girlfriend Ginni Chatrath who helped him survive the bad phase of his life.

Recently, Kapil shared that more than him it was Ginni who showed courage and took him out of Mumbai to help him recover from his dire state. He told Bollywood Bubble how his mother was affected when media wrote about his alcoholism. The comedian said, “When you try to make things better, they just get worse because you are not at peace. So, in such times, you stop and wait. I did the same. I might not have done this, but Ginni came to Mumbai.”

Kapil Sharma shared that despite coming from a family who opposed the idea of a daughter living with her would-be-husband, Ginny showed courage and moved to Mumbai. “Uska ghona shaadi se ek saal pehle hi ho gaya tha (She got married even before we got married in real). The courage that she showed is bigger. She belongs to a well-to-do family, but in our families, it’s a big thing for a girl to live with a boy before marriage.”

Ginni told Kapil that his health is more significant than anything for her and she doesn’t even care if they will ever get married. “She told me, ‘Ye sab log na tujhse yahi chah rahe hain, main chah rahi hun ki tu sahi ho ja (All these people want only this from you but I want you to get well). I don’t care if we will get married or not, you get well, and then I will go back. Uska bohot bada haath tha mujhe nikaalne me..it was a bad phase,” Kapil narrated.

However, this phase helped the actor-comedian learn a few lessons, one of them being not to pay too much attention to what people said about him on social media. He said, “Ever since I have returned, there are a lot of things that have stopped affecting me. I don’t care about what people are writing about me on social media. Main theek hun, meri family theek hai, meri maa theek hai..basss. (I only want my family to be fine).”

Kapil Sharma is once again at the peak of his career. His show The Kapil Sharma Show is running successfully and his new film Zwigato has received a positive response. Personally too, the actor is now a father of two children.
