Kapil Sharma and Rajiv Thakur have had a long association with each other. They started their career at the same time, and started getting bigger opportunities in the entertainment industry when they moved to Mumbai. Eventually, their friendship grew stronger and after saving some money, they decided to buy a house. In a recent chat, Rajiv shared that they were so naive at this time that they did not even think of getting a home loan to buy a house.

Speaking on DostCast’s YouTube channel, Rajiv recalled the time when both of them made almost the same amount of money and saved Rs 50 lakh to buy a flat. “We wanted to buy a flat. Back then, a 2-BHK flat in Andheri was at least for Rs 75 lakh. We couldn’t afford that so we headed to Malad.” Rajiv and Kapil liked a flat but the rates were quite high so Rajiv lured the seller by promising him that they would buy three flats at the same time, so he gives them a better deal.

“Kapil and I would buy one each and we would find someone to buy the third. He said Rs 54 lakh for the flat, I brought it down to Rs 45 lakh on the promise that we will buy three flats. But when we were returning to Andheri, it took us about one and half hour. By this time, we decided, we are never returning here,” he recalled with a laugh.

By the time, Rajiv and Kapil saved up Rs 70 lakh, the flats in Andheri spiked to Rs 90 lakh. “We were so poor that we didn’t know that one can avail a home loan. It never occurred to us that one can take home loan,” he recalled and said that when he shared this idea with his father, he was shocked by the idea of getting a loan. Rajiv said that they eventually bought their flats in Andheri because that’s where most of their work happens and they don’t want to spend much time in travel. Rajiv then shared, “Kapil stays in Andheri because he knows if he will move out of there, he will become lonely.”
