Jay Bhanushali says he’s not seen a worse film than Barbie: ‘My daughter judged me for my choice’
Taking to Instagram stories, Jay Bhanushali criticised Barbie and called it unsuitable for kids as well as adults. He warned his followers to not waste their money on it.

After Juhi Parmar and Sona Mohapatra, Jay Bhanushali took to social media to trash Barbie. The Greta Gerwig’s take on the Mattel doll stars Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling in the lead roles of Barbie and Ken. While the film passed with flying colours among international audience, Indian fans have mixed response to the film, as Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer surged ahead at the box office. Jay, who watched the film with his daughter on Sunday, shared that it was ‘super bad’ and warned his followers to not waste their money by going for Barbie.
Saying he is posting the video in the public interest, the actor said he’s been watching videos of people flocking theatre dressed in pink. He said it made him also take his daughter to the film. He added that it was painful to watch it and he was posting the video so that audiences can save their money and mental peace by avoiding the film. “Isse buri picture maine nahi dekhi (I haven’t seen a worse film than this). It was super, super bad film. I am at a loss for words. It took me two days to talk about it as I was shocked at what kind of a film they’d made. It was promoted as a kids’ film but it’s not for them or even adults,” he said.

Jay further shared that because he had paid for the film, he decided to tolerate it. However, 30 minutes into it, his daughter said she was sleepy and bored. He asked her to wait, as it’s a good film and that’s when she gave him a look, that he’ll never forget in his life. “She was judging me for liking the film. I want to warn you all that if you ask your children to go with you, they will doubt you, your taste and your choice. So beware,” he concluded.
Jay Bhanushali did not specify if he went for the film with his four-year-old daughter Tara or his foster child Khushi. In either case, Barbie is rated PG-13 and would not have been suitable for his daughters.
Kumkum actor Juhi Parmar, earlier shared how she was left outraged when she stepped into a cinema hall with her 10-year-old daughter to watch Barbie. In a social media post, she wrote how shocked she was by the film’s ‘inappropriate language and sexual connotations’ and had to walk out after 10-15 minutes. As per Juhi, a lot of parents followed suit as she accused the makers of misleading the audience. She wrote a long note as a ‘concerned and disappointed parent’, and also went on to question the makers about breaking her ‘perfect illusion of a Barbie’.
