Social media influencer Elvish Yadav is facing heat after allegedly making “derogatory and racist” remarks against former Miss Arunachal and Big Boss 18 contestant Chum Darang during a podcast with fellow Big Boss contestant Rajat Dalal. On Saturday, Elvish issued a clarification regarding his comments on the podcast, stating that his offensive remarks about Chum have been removed from the episode.

He wrote on X, “A statement from my podcast is being taken out of context and presented in a misleading way. There was never any intention to target or insult anyone. I have always believed in respect and inclusivity, and those who know me understand that I have nothing but love for everyone. It’s unfortunate that a false narrative is being created, completely misrepresenting my words. This whole issue is based on false allegations of racism, which is simply not true. To avoid further misinterpretation, the statement was removed from the podcast, and I also addressed the clarification in my next vlog. I have always stood for positivity and inclusivity and will continue to do so.”

For the unversed, Elvish Yadav, in a podcast with Rajat Dalal, had made fun of Chum Darang and Karanveer Mehra, saying, “Karan Veer ko pakka Covid tha kyuki Chum kisko pasand aati hai bhai, itna taste kiska kharab hota hai? Aur Chum ke toh naam mai hi ashleelta hai. Naam Chum aur kaam Gangubai Kathiawadi mai kiya hai. (Karan Veer must have suffered from Covid, otherwise who would like Chum? Who has such bad taste? And there is vulgarity in the name of Chum. Her name is Chum and she has worked in ‘Gangubai Kathiawadi’ movie).”

Reacting to Elvish’s comments, Chum Darang had shared a cryptic note on Instagram. She wrote on her Instagram Stories, “Disrespecting someone’s identity and name is not ‘fun.’ Mocking someone’s achievements is not ‘banter.’ It’s time we draw the line between humor and hate. What’s even more disappointing is that this wasn’t just about my ethnicity my hard work and a film backed by a visionary like Sanjay Leela Bhansali were also disrespected.”

Earlier in an exclusive conversation with SCREEN, Chum Darang had spoken about people making fun of her ethnicity. She had said, “That’s not nice, honestly, I would never do that. If somebody is doing that to me it’s not appreciated. This didn’t affect me in the game so much.”

Following the racist remarks, Elvish Yadav was summoned by the National Commission for Women (NCW). The Arunachal Pradesh State Commission for Women (APSCW) also strongly condemned the “derogatory and racist” remarks made by Elvish against Chum.
