Dilip Joshi reveals how he lost 16 kgs in less than two months for a film role
Dilip Joshi shared that he once lost 16 kgs in a span of less than two months for a film role.

Dilip Joshi, who is known for playing Jethalal in Taarak Mehta Ka Ooltah Chashmah, recently revealed in an interview that the actor once lost 16 kgs in a span of a month and a half for a film role. In a chat with Mashable India, Dilip was speaking about working in the 1992 film Hun Hunshi Hunshilal and how he was required to lose weight for the character he was supposed to play.
The actor shared that he used to have an office job at the time and every day after work, he would jog across Marine Drive in the rains to get in shape. “I used to go to work, change at the swimming club and run across the whole Marine Drive, until (Hotel) Oberoi in the rain, and go back. I would jog the whole way and it used to take me 45 minutes. I lost 16 kgs in one and a half months,” he said.
He further recalled, “It used to be so much fun. The sun was setting and there would be a slight drizzle. The clouds used to look so beautiful.” Hun Hunshi Hunshilal was a Gujarati political satire which also starred Renuka Shahane, Manoj Joshi, Mohan Gokhale among others. Dilip played the titular character in the movie.
In the same chat, Dilip Joshi spoke about working as a travel agent for five years before becoming an actor. “There was a phase in my life when I was a partner in a travel agency. From 1985 till 1990, it was a routine life: go to the office at 9 am and come back at 9 pm. We used to manage the luxury buses which ran between Mumbai and Ahmedabad and Mumbai and Bhavnagar,” he said. Dilip said that he quit the travel industry because he wanted to solely focus on acting.
