Cooking-based reality show Celebrity MasterChef, which has entered its finale week, recently invited some flak after actor Gaurav Khanna was accused of copying a Swiss chef’s dessert. Not just the audience, even Swiss chef Josia Reichen (whose dessert Gaurav copied) called out the actor and the show’s makers for not giving him due credit. Following the incident, comedian Munawar Faruqui is set to appear as a special guest on the show, where he will closely observe the celebrity chefs’ cooking skills.
On the show, Munawar will reveal that he has come across rumors online suggesting that the celebrity cooks aren’t actually cooking their food. He will warn the five finalists that he’s on the show to uncover the truth. Munawar jokingly says, “There are fans who don’t believe the contestants are cooking themselves.” In response, Gaurav defends the celebrity cooks, stating, “Today, everyone will know the truth since you all trust Munawar. Please come check under our tables.” Munawar then adds, “I believe you, but these days, the internet trusts honest people less.”
In one of the promos released last week, Gaurav Khanna’s honey-dripping dessert received significant praise from the judges. However, it was later revealed that the dish Gaurav claimed as his own creation was actually copied from Swiss chef Josia Reichen. While netizens found this embarrassing, Josia also responded to the news. He shared the promo on his Instagram stories, calling out the makers and Gaurav for not crediting him for the original idea. He wrote, “Well done, so creative…” along with a joking emoji. In another story, he posted his original creation, captioning it, “the original.”
While Gaurav Khanna’s fans have rushed to his defense, neither the actor nor the Celebrity MasterChef team has responded to the accusation so far.
Meanwhile, the top five finalists of Celebrity MasterChef Season 1 are Rajiv Adatia, Nikki Tamboli, Mr. Faisu, Gaurav Khanna, and Tejasswi Prakash.
