Tanya Mittal has become a sensation ever since she entered the Bigg Boss 19 house. But she has also become a target of trolls, particularly for the claims that she makes about her wealth and lifestyle. She is an entrepreneur, who runs a saree business. While the outfits she designs empower women today, there was a time when she was rejected by her boyfriend for the way she looked. In an old interview with NewScoop, Tanya Mittal shared that a boy broke her heart, which led her to participate in the Miss India pageant.

“There was a time when I was dating this guy. I really liked him, and he was more like my backup plan. I thought that if my business doesn’t work, I’d marry him because he was rich. But before I could tell him anything, he broke up with me. Valentine’s Day was round the corner. I cried a lot. I asked him why he dumped me. He said: ‘Because you are not pretty. You need to groom yourself. You look like a gol matol si rasgulla.’ His statement made me cry even more. And he didn’t even care to console me. He walked away.”

That was the day that Tanya decided to work on herself. “I realised that nobody will value you if you are both ugly and broke. I joined beauty pageant institute in Gwalior. I told them, I will pay all your fees, you please make me look pretty. In six months, I was so depressed that I lost my appetite. I was extremely sad and lost about 13 kgs. I learnt how to put makeup. Until then, I didn’t know anything about makeup.”

Tanya had to hustle to afford one bottle of foundation. “I realised that a Mac Foundation costs you Rs 4,000. I had to sell to 40 greeting cards to afford that foundation. I used to invest my everyday turnover into that beauty institute. All this just with the hope that maybe one day the boy will regret his decision of breaking up with me. I secretly took part in Miss Asia. I won the title but by the time I returned, it was too late. He was married. I blocked him after that.”

She shared that after her success, she has been constantly receiving marriage proposals, but is happy by herself.
