Baseer Ali is a contestant on Bigg Boss Season 19, hosted by Salman Khan. A model, reality show star, and TV actor, Baseer has experienced his share of highs and lows in the industry. He has been part of popular reality shows like Splitsvilla, Roadies, and Ace Of Space, and made his acting debut with the TV show Kundali Bhagya. Before joining the Salman Khan-hosted Bigg Boss 19, Baseer spoke exclusively to SCREEN about the struggles many reality show stars face once their stint on such shows comes to an end.

On joining Bigg Boss 19

Talking about why he chose to participate in Bigg Boss this year, Baseer Ali said, “I didn’t decide to participate this season; the makers decided to bring me in this season. This is one show in my life where there has been a lot of back and forth from day one. This year, we took about a month to lock the show because there were so many factors to consider. My family told me they thought I was ready, and we just did it.”

On challenges reality show stars face

During the conversation, Baseer Ali also opened up about the struggles reality show stars face once the cameras stop rolling. He explained how the sudden fame and attention put contestants on a pedestal, creating unrealistic expectations about their lifestyle. Baseer said, “Reality stars have a very difficult pattern. A show puts you on a pedestal, and viewers see you as a star. When we come out after doing a show, you need to have the money to show the lifestyle that people think you have. So many people come out and struggle with displaying that lifestyle, and they often fail at it. People get badly stuck in that loop. It’s more important to accept what you are, so I urge them not to fall for that hoax and live life realistically.”

On facing constant hate and trolling

Recalling his experience of a previous show, Baseer said, “My last show was so difficult for me because I was competing against people I call friends outside the show. After going on the show, our equations changed, and I was so emotionally shaken that I couldn’t play the game. In fact, I got played. I am shaken after that experience.”

Talking about the hate he faced, the Bigg Boss 19 contestant added, “I have witnessed heavy trolling since the first show I did. I had not imagined that this would happen to me. People said I looked like a pine tree. Then, the channel called me and said that, since a lot of people were hating me, I should do a counter PR story. I was shocked to learn that all this also happens in this business. I have had my journey with haters and trolls, and now it doesn’t reach me.”

On his Bigg Boss 19 audition

Kundali Bhagya actor Baseer Ali shared that his first meeting with the Bigg Boss 19 makers was cancelled after he reached there. “My first meeting for Bigg Boss 19 was cancelled in my face, and I sent a voice note shouting, “How can you do this.” That message went to the team, and someone felt bad, and they called me to a cafe. Before this meeting ended, that person said that I was doing Bigg Boss this year. I had only two meetings, and I clearly told them that I want to do this show. It’s a dream to be on it, but I am not desperate or need it, so I will not do crazy things to be here.”

Talking about his personality, Baseer said, “I am a lone wolf. I don’t wait for people. I do what I have to do. I can keep going no matter how much you break me. But if somebody manages to get inside my heart, everything starts going wrong. Disrespect triggers me the most. If someone talks to me badly, it won’t be nice for both of us. I am an extrovert, and I know what I bring to the table. The kind of energy I bring, boring people also turn out to be interesting. I am very confident that I will make everyone reach their potential.”
