Armie Hammer buys life rights for drug lord La Barbie

Armie Hammer has secured rights to the life story of drug cartel leader Edgar "La Barbie" Valdez-Villarreal for a TV series.

Armie Hammer has secured rights to the life story of drug cartel leader Edgar “La Barbie” Valdez-Villarreal for a TV series.

Valdez-Villarreal is a Texas high school football star-turned-drug trafficker and is currently in prison.

He pleaded guilty this month to trafficking and money laundering as a chief lieutenant in Mexico’s Beltran-Leyva Cartel.

“Owning La Barbie’s life rights was the most important thing to us. We knew that having direct access to him meant access to stories that were never intended to see the light of day,” Hammer said.

Details were not available about where the project might end up, or if Hammer plans to star.

Valdez-Villarreal was dubbed “La Barbie” for his light complexion.
