Vettaiyan release date out: Rajinikanth to hunt from October 10, clash with Suriya’s Kanguva on the cards

Rajinikanth's Vettaiyan, which has seen a rather subdued buildup so far, has a stellar star cast with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara VIjayan playing pivotal roles

Proper planning of release dates allows all the production houses to cross the t’s and dot the i’s to ensure their films get the best release window. Keeping this in mind, Lyca Productions, which backed the recent Kamal Haasan film Indian 2, has announced the release date of their next biggie, Vettaiyan. Starring Rajinikanth in the lead, the film, helmed by Jai Bhim director TJ Gnanavel, is set to hit the screens on October 10. While this is indeed a happy news for scores of Rajinikanth fans, it has created a conundrum of sorts because Suriya-Siva’s much-awaited Kanguva had earlier locked the same date. Now, if both Vettaiyan and Kanguva are released according to plan, the stage is set for a blockbuster clash.

Announcing the official release date, Lyca Productions also released a new poster featuring Rajinikanth. They shared it with the caption, “Target locked. Vettaiyan is set to hunt in cinemas worldwide from October 10, 2024. Superstar as Supercop. Releasing in Tamil, Telugu, Hindi, and Kannada.”

However, this news can disturb the release strategy of Kanguva, which was aiming for a solo release in the theatres on October 10. It is to be noted that Rajinikanth had earlier suggested that the film would hit the screens for the Dussehra weekend, mostly on October 10. In fact, in earlier interviews, KE Gnanavel Raja, who is backing Kanguva under his Studio Green banner, asserted that his film would release on October 10 only because he knew from reliable sources that Vettaiyan would not hit the screens on the same date. He had said, “I am a huge fan of Rajinikanth sir, and there is no chance I would want to release my film alongside his. It is not because of market forces, but my respect for the Superstar.” However, with this new update from team Vettaiyan, it would be interesting to see if Gnanavel Raja backs off from this statement, or backs off from the release date.

Vettaiyan, which has seen a rather subdued buildup so far, has a stellar star cast with the likes of Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Manju Warrier, Ritika Singh, and Dushara VIjayan playing pivotal roles. The film has Anirudh Ravichander working on a Rajinkanth film for the fourth time after Petta, Darbar, and Jailer. With cinematography by SR Kathir, Vettaiyan has editing by Philomin Raj.
