The first look poster of TJ Gnanavel's Rajinikanth-starrer Vettaiyan was released on the ocassion of Pongal. The poster features Rajini exuding swagger in a salt-and-pepper look and donning wayfarer glasses.

One of the most anticipated Tamil movies of 2024, TJ Gnanavel’s Rajinikanth-starrer Vettaiyan, has been generating significant buzz ever since it was initially announced under the working title Thalaivar 170. The excitement reached its peak with the revelation of the star-studded cast, including Amitabh Bachchan, Fahadh Faasil, Rana Daggubati and Manju Warrier.
Now, Team Vettaiyan has unveiled the movie’s official first look poster, creating a surge of excitement among fans. The poster, released on the occasion of Pongal, showcases Rajini as a commanding figure at the top, exuding swagger in a salt-and-pepper look and donning wayfarer glasses.
In his image at the bottom, superimposed over the visual of a crowd running amok, Rajini can be seen pointing a gun upward, while seemingly giving a “hukum”, underlining why the Jailer song aptly emphasised “Thalaivar Nirantharam” (Thalaivar Forever).
“Paaaaaa thalaivaaaaa. Unexpected Marana mass poster thank you,” one fan commented under Lyca Productions’ post on X (formerly Twitter). Another one commented, “Oh damn. I like that 🔥.”

A few days ago, a photo of Thalaivar, reportedly taken at the shoot location of Vettaiyan, had gone viral on social media. In the picture, Rajini was seen getting ready for the shoot while being exuberant as always. Sporting a green-striped shirt, cream pants, brown shoes, black shades, and his signature smile, Rajini was captured amid preparations as his team stood nearby.
Last month, Vettaiyan’s makers unveiled its title teaser, offering a glimpse into the film’s world. The promo video opens with a shot of Rajini reading a book with a photo of Subhas Chandra Bose. In another scene, he is seen carrying a lathi, leading to speculation that the actor is playing a college professor in the film. However, before we decide on that, he has shifted to holding a gun. So, the mystery of the nature of his character and the film continues.
Vettaiyan marks the first collaboration between Rajinikanth and Amitabh in 33 years, following their previous project, Mukul S Anand’s Hum (1991). The two have already wrapped up a schedule in Mumbai.
The film will be released in Hindi, Telugu, Malayalam, and Kannada languages, besides its original Tamil version. Bankrolled by Subaskaran Allirajah under the banner of Lyca Productions, Vettaiyan’s music is composed by Anirudh Ravichander.
