Veteran actor Bindu Ghosh dies at 76, obscure and forgotten
Bindu Ghosh, who made an indelible mark as a comedian in Tamil cinema, started off her stint as an actor in the 1982 film, Kozhi Koovuthu

Veteran comedy actress Bindu Ghosh, known for her performances in various Tamil and Telugu films, passed away late on Sunday after a prolonged illness. She was 76. Also known for her dancing skills, Bindu has also been a choreographer. Incidentally, she made her onscreen debut alongside Kamal Haasan in the 1960 film, Kalathur Kannamma, as one of the dancers. As a dancer, she has been part of songs involving former Chief Ministers of Tamil Nadu, MG Ramachandran and J Jayalalithaa.

Bindu, who made an indelible mark as a comedian in Tamil cinema, started off her stint as an actor in the 1982 film, Kozhi Koovuthu. In an era where male comedians ruled the roost, Bindu was an important talent that managed to hold her own against many other legends of that era, including Goundamani, Senthil, and Manorama.
She has also starred opposite many superstars of Tamil cinema when they were starting out in the industry, and climbing the ladder of superstardom. Some of her co-stars include Kamal Haasan, Rajinikanth, Vijayakanth, and Karthik. She was a regular in director Visu’s films, and has starred in projects like Dowry Kalyanam, and Thirumathi Oru Vegumathi.
Although her weight was a common trope in the comedy sequences, Bindu also managed to create an impression with her body language, unique voice, and a spunky attitude that made her stand above the stereotypes. Tributes have been pouring in for the veteran actor, who passed away in obscurity, which reflects the fickle nature of cinema, and the limelight.
