As the film Thug Life nears release, anticipation is growing among the fans of one of the most iconic pairings in Indian cinema, director Mani Ratnam and star Kamal Hassan. While there has been a lot of excitement regarding their long-awaited reunion, many fans are questioning pairing Haasan with actor Trisha Krishnan in the movie. There is a 28-year age gap between the two, but Trisha doesn’t seem too bothered by it.

While attending a pre-release event for the film in Mumbai, the actor responded to these concerns, and said, “I think that’s something I knew when they announced the film, and I had not even signed it. So that’s when I knew, Wow, this is magic. And I was not even part of the film at that point in time.” She added that she was too busy staring at Ratnam and Haasan working together, and said, “All of us as actors, we were like, Oh damn, we have to do some work here. We’ve got to stop staring at them. So it was magic.”

In an interview with India Today, the actor stated that Haasan was like a mentor to her, and talked about growing up on Ratnam’s films. “I have known Simbu and Kamal sir for several years now, and it was quite easy for me. In my film career, Kamal sir has been a mentor to me. Simbu and I have done two films, and we have known each other for a long time. When I entered the film set, it felt like a safe space for me. I have built a comfort level with everyone, even with Mani sir.”

Even though Haasan and Krishnan both seem unfazed, more backlash was around the corner. The song ‘Sugar Baby’, which features both actors in a romantic setting, received flak for its title. Thug Life will be released in theatres on June 5, and the cast of the film includes Silambarasan TR, Aishwarya Lekshmi, Ashok Selvan, Abhirami, Joju George, Nasser and Mahesh Manjrekar.
