A new teaser of Vikram and Pa Ranjith’s upcoming film Thangalaan was unveiled today. While Yash’s KGF used the setting for a commercial star vehicle, Pa Ranjith, known for his films on caste oppression, has come up with a bloody war drama about greed with the setting.

“As myth leads to history, as greed leads to destruction, as blood wars lead to liberty, rises the son of gold,” reads the title cards in the teaser. The teaser features only montages from the film without any linear sequence. However, they are enough to provide the tone and texture of Thangalaan.

Looks like Pa Ranjith has come up with a movie based on both history and myths surrounding the tribes that lived on the land, which later became Kolar Gold Mines.

Pa Ranjith has explored a similar theme in films like Madras and Kaala, where the protagonist fights to regain control of his people’s land and identity. Thangalaan seems to be treading a similar path except for the theme of greed, which is a new arena for the director.

Produced by Gnanavelraj of Green Studios, Thangalaan has Malavika Mohanan, Parvathy Thiruvothu, and Pasupathy in important roles. GV Prakash Kumar has joined hands with Pa Ranjith for the first time for Thanagalaan, and he has come up with an effective background score for the teaser.

Thangalaan, written by Tamil Prabha and Pa Ranjith, has dialogues by writer Azhagiya Periyavar. The film will be released on January 26, 2024. Ranjith is expected to direct Kamal Haasan after this project.
