Shruti Haasan says she has been a pan-Indian actor for more than a decade: ‘As there was no OTT or social media then…’

Shruti Haasan celebrates her birthday today, and has been pan-India artiste long before the term was coined.

Actor Shruti Haasan says that she doesn’t like comparing herself to her peers in the film industry, who have made the most of the pan-India trend. The Salaar actor, who has been working in several Indian film industries since she started her career in 2005, always took up films based on what felt organic to her.

In the last couple of years, several actors such as Ram Charan, Prabhas, Allu Arjun and others have reached new heights of fame, thanks to the crossover between several language industries and awareness through social media and OTT.

In an interview with indianexpress.com, Shruti, who turns 36 today, says that she doesn’t compare herself to her peers who have found popularity by doing something she started years back in her career.

“I have never really compared myself to a contemporary male actor or female actor. I have just followed a path in my career which has felt natural to me at the time,” says Shruti.

The actor adds, “At the time I started there was no social media, OTT. I think a lot more people would have seen a lot more of my work but I am happy for every journey and phase of my life.”

Unlike many other actors, Shruti is not bitten by the pan-India bug. In fact, she says that she has been aiming at working across industries from long back.

“For me, it’s not a pan-India fever. If you look back to the interviews I have given 11 years ago, I have always aimed at being pan-Indian and I have always used that word ‘pan Indian’,” says the actor, whose recent film Salaar was a blockbuster.

Shruti has an interesting lineup of films. She will soon be seen in Telugu-Hindi film Dacoit alongside Adivi Sesh. She also recently announced her English project Chennai Stories alongside Viveik Kalra.

Talking about Dacoit, Shruti said, “Dacoit is a love story but a very unique and rare love story. My character is so beautiful character and I was really excited when I was offered that part.”
