As speculated earlier, Shruti Haasan is playing a role in Rajinikanth’s upcoming film Coolie, directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj. The actor took to social media to share a selfie with the caption “Coolie Day 1”. However, she deleted it later. Nevertheless, the screenshot of the post has gone viral on social media. It was rumoured that Shruti is playing the role of Rajinikanth’s daughter in the movie.

Lokesh and Shruti recently collaborated for the music video of the song “Inimel,” which was penned by Kamal Haasan. Lokesh and Shruti played a couple in the music video. While Shruti directed the song, Lokesh was an actor in it. Now, the tables have turned and Lokesh will get back to his default role as a director.

Coolie, produced by Sun Pictures, is touted to be a heist film. Other than Rajinikanth and Shruti Haasan, Sathyaraj has been confirmed to be part of the movie. Even ahead of an official announcement, the actor confirmed it during the promotional event of the movie Mazhai Pidikatha Manithan.

As far as the crew goes, Girish Gangadharan, who worked in Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram, has teamed up again with the director for Coolie. Philomin Raj, another frequent collaborator of Lokesh, will edit the film. Stunt choreographer Anbu-Arivu is expected to join the team.

Coolie will be released in 2025. Meanwhile, Rajinikanth’s Vettaiyan, directed by TJ Gnanavel, will be released for Dushara in October.
