At a time and age when digital superstars are an actual thing, it is surprising that actor Sai Pallavi prefers keeping a rather low profile. In a recent interview with Behindwoods, the actor opened up about not taking the pressure of constantly being in the limelight.

“I must thank my medical degree for keeping me grounded. Even after Premam, there were voices asking me to sign a project immediately. But I wanted to finish college so that I don’t take the pressure. I knew I’d always have that as a backup,” said the actor, who is set to make her big Bollywood debut with the big-budgeted Ramayan, featuring her in the role of Sita.

“In fact, there was a Bollywood acquaintance who asked if I needed a PR agency. But I didn’t understand the need because when I do films, I give interviews. Then, I asked him why I’d need a PR agency,” said Sai Pallavi, who shared that even the acquaintance didn’t really have a clear answer as to why an actor needs that boosting.

“I was told it was important to have people talking about me even when I was not doing films. But why? If everyone is talking about me so much, won’t it just get boring after a while? I just don’t understand these things.”

Sai Pallavi also opened up about being herself in an industry where there is a constant pressure to be something else. “Let’s be honest, being myself is allowed only if it conforms to societal rules. I’d be uncomfortable if I’m not myself. But many have the fear of offending someone or being misconstrued and finding themselves at the receiving end of a controversy,” said the actor, who points out the responsibility of the media in such cases. “Rumours just become impressions today. Media is important to people because it feeds their psyche. It can consume you. So, I prefer keeping things private.”
