Nelson Dilipkumar has made a glorious comeback with Jailer that has turned a lot of his critics into his fans. After Beast, which was panned by critics and fans, there were rumours that Nelson would not be directing Rajinikanth. However, the Superstar chose to stick with Nelson which has resulted in the biggest blockbuster of Tamil cinema in a long while. However, in a recent interview with Galatta Plus, Nelson said that the success has only made him calmer. “Even Anirudh noted that I am behaving as if this huge incident hasn’t happened at all,” remarked the Jailer director in the interview.

Nelson was asked about one of the major criticisms against Jailer that its story is similar to Kamal Haasan’s blockbuster film Vikram. Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vikram is about a former undercover agent hunting down the people responsible for the death of his son. On the other hand, Jailer is also about a former police officer’s mission to save the life of his son. Both heroes get help from their old acquaintances and friends to get the job done.

Nelson Dilipkumar said that he conceived the story of Jailer even before the release of Vikram.

Nelson said, “I told the story of Jailer to Lokesh a long ago, and he asked me to see Vikram. He told me these are the things in the film, and I told him maybe the take-off might be similar, but Jailer goes on a different tangent. I didn’t consciously do it, but if they end up being similar, I didn’t want to change anything… because if we change something it might lead to some problems somewhere else (in the script). I thought people would enjoy both as long as they were good. Vikram was released last June, I told the story last January.”

Jailer, meanwhile, is fast approaching the Rs 600 crore mark at the worldwide box office, according to industry tracker Sacnilk.
