Lokesh Kanagaraj is the king of easter eggs, throwbacks, and tributes. Even in the promo of the first single from Leo, “Naa Ready”, the director has managed to take everyone on a trip down memory lane to Vijay‘s formative years as a singer. “Indha paadalai paadiyavar ungal Vijay (This song is sung by your Vijay)” is a popular line that appears on the screen of the songs that were sung by Vijay back in the day. Songs like his debut single “Bombay City Sukka Roti” from the film Rasigan and “Aiyayo Alamelu” song from Deva are some examples. Now, after a long time, the line is back in the promo of “Naa Ready” as the song is sung by Vijay himself.

While the full song will be released on Vijay’s 49th birthday on June 22, a small portion of it was released today, and within minutes it has crossed over 700,000 likes on YouTube. “Naa Ready” is a typical Tamil ‘kuthu’ number that’s perfect for dancing and one can already visualise the celebrations that are set to unfold in theatres for the song. “Naa Ready” is going to be the “Pathala Pathala” (from Kamal Haasan’s Vikram) of Vijay.

Lyricist Vishnu Edavan has written the song, which is sung by Vijay, Anirudh Ravichander and rapper Asal Kolaaru. That gives away that the song would also have a rap portion.

Leo, which is speculated to be part of Lokesh Kanagaraj’s cinematic universe, has Trisha, Sanjay Dutt, Mysskin, Vasanth Ravi, Priya Anandh, and Gautham Menon in pivotal roles. The film will be released on October 19.
