Madhavan responds to speculations about joining Lokesh Cinematic Universe’s Benz: ‘I have no clue’

With fans expressing intrigue over Madhavan's decision to play the villain in a LCU film, a clarification has come from the actor himself denying all such rumours.

While the Marvel Cinematic Universe was built on the strength of scores of comic books and much-loved characters through the ages, closer home in Tamil cinema, director Lokesh Kanagaraj is building something similar. The Lokesh Cinematic Universe includes films like Kaithi, Vikram, and Leo, featuring some of the biggest names in Indian cinema. From Kamal Haasan, Vijay and Suriya to Fahadh Faasil, Vijay Sethupathi and Karthi, this brainchild of Lokesh is becoming bigger in vision, bigger in scale, and most importantly, bigger in ambition. Now, Lokesh is planning to outsource the directorial responsibilities of the Lokesh Cinematic Universe and roping in other filmmakers to helm the other films of the LCU. First in line is director Bakkiyaraj Kannan, who will be helming Benz, headlined by Raghava Lawrence.

There were reports doing the rounds that Benz would not just mark Raghava Lawrence’s entry into the LCU, but also actor Madhavan’s. It was suggested that the Minnale actor would play the antagonist in the film thereby becoming an integral part of the ambitious LCU. With fans expressing intrigue over Madhavan’s decision to play the villain in a LCU movie, a clarification has come from the actor himself.

Sharing a news article about his inclusion in Benz, Madhavan wrote, “Hey this is news to me. As much as it sounds exciting and I would love to be part of a universe like this. I’m surprised with this news because I have no clue about this.”

This has put an end to all the rumours. Also, the interest shown by netizens for this news can be seen as a pointer for team LCU to actually approach Madhavan to be part of the universe.

Recently, the makers of Benz announced that indie sensation Sai Abhyankkar would make his feature film debut as a music director with this project, which will hit screens in 2025. Apart from Benz, other LCU films in the works are Kaithi 2, and a standalone movie for Rolex. On the other hand, Lokesh is currently helming Rajinikanth’s next, Coolie.

Meanwhile, Madhavan, who was last seen in Tamil in his own directorial venture, Rocketry: The Nambi Effect, has an interesting lineup of films, including Mithran Jawahar’s Adhirshtasaali, filmmaker Sashikanth’s The Test, and Anshul Sharma’s De De Pyar De 2.
