Filmmaker Mani Ratnam and his wife Suhasini recently hosted a party to celebrate 30 years of director Shankar. Ratnam invited some of the celebrated names in the industry including the much-happening director Lokesh Kanagaraj. Karthik Subbaraj, Lingusamy, Sasi, AR Murugadoss, and Gautham Vasudev Menon were also in attendance.

Shankar took to Instagram to thank Ratnam and Suhasini for hosting the party. In an emotional post, he wrote, “Thank you Mani sir for this truly special evening! Catching up with these fine and celebrated filmmakers, sharing memories while making them, vibing to some evergreen #Illayaraja and @arrahman songs sung by @karthikmusicexp…I feel these moments are the true wealth that we’ve earned! And thank you @suhasinihasan for the hospitality!”

Shankar made his debut as a director with Gentleman starring Arjun back in 1994. Over the years, the director has made some of the biggest hits in the country like Enthiran, 2.0, and Anniyan. Shankar’s films are known for their extravagant sets and high production costs. He is also known for introducing many foreign technologies to Indian cinema. Even before pan-Indian cinema became a thing, Shankar was making movies that had a market across the country.

He is currently directing Kamal Haasan in Indian 2, which is set to be released by the end of this year.

Meanwhile, the picture from the party for Shankar also features two of the most important directors of the current generation. One is Mani Ratnam, who also happens to be the most senior director in the picture. The other director is Lokesh Kanagaraj, the youngest in the group.

While Kanagaraj is working on the post-production of Vijay’s Leo, Ratnam will next direct Kamal Haasan in an untitled project.
