Jiagarthanda DoubleX teaser: Karthik Subbaraj is back with another story of a filmmaker and gangster

While Pizza turned out to be a good debut for Karthik Subbaraj, it was his sophomore film Jigarthanda that sealed his place in Tamil cinema as a promising director. The film was released in 2014, and after a gap of about a decade, Karthik is back with a sequel to the film titled Jigarthanda DoubleX. The teaser of the film, which was released today, has a similar premise as the first part.

In the upcoming film, set in the 70s, Raghava Lawrence plays a ruthless gangster named Pandya. On the other hand, SJ Suryah is playing a filmmaker. What if the two come together to make a film? Karthik explores the premise, and he claims that the film will belong to a new genre called Pandyaa Western, a mix-mash of Madurai tropes and Western cowboy tropes. The visuals of the teaser also reflect this mixture.

Though the storyline and other details are not revealed in the teaser, the film promises a lot of action sequences and humour just like the first part.

The rest of the cast has not been revealed by the makers. On the other hand, the film has music by Karthik’s frequent collaborator Santhosh Narayanan. Cinematographer Tirru has made every frame in the teaser look like a painting.

The teaser has also confirmed the release date of the film as Diwali 2023 (November 12).
